At Daka SecAnim, we provide services for a large number of animal livestocks on a daily basis. We therefore also collect and process by-products from profession animal husbandys. The resulting products are used for i.a. organic fertilizer, biodiesel, and biofuels for cement plants. All in accordance with the law and with the highest possible level of safety and hygiene.

If you have dead sheep or goats, it must not be mixed with the other dead animals – contact Callcenter SecAnim to arrange a separate collection.

Daka SecAnim must, like the farmers, report relocations to the Animal Registration. All dead animals are processed at our factory in Randers, which has CHR no. 71930.

Pick-up times and the driving system
All animals must be registered for collection no later than 24 hours after the death. We pick up the dead animals as soon as possible and therefore it is important that the animals are presented when you register for collection.

In Daka SecAnim, we have a dynamic route planning system, so that the cars’ route is updated every 5 minutes while driving, and they can therefore include new registrations along the way. This means that we can in principle arrive within 5 minutes if there is a car near you when you sign up.

Daka SecAnim offers e-mail and SMS service if you want to be notified of the expected time for collection. Contact call center SecAnim to register.

Registration Procedures

You can register with the following procedures:

PIGUP&KO | Easy and fast registration of dead animals
With the PIGUP&KO app that allows you to place your order for pick-up easily via your smartphone. PIGUP&KO allows for mutiple users attached to one account, making it possible for co-workers to order collection. The app is free, and can be downloaded via app store or google play – just search for Daka SecAnim or PIGUP&KO.
Automatic registration system
Sign up on the automatic registration system on tel. +45 7022 5544. Enter the 8-digit telephone number and then press #. You will then be asked to type in the CHR number of the pick-up address. When you call you will be guided on how to register for the exact type of animal you have. It is important to register the correct type and quantity.
SecAnim customer WEB
Ordering pick-up can be done via SecAnim’s customer WEB, where username = registration number (telephone number) and password = debtor number. Here you can also find pick-up statistics and invoice copies. You also have the opportunity to access SecAnim customer WEB via My Portal on Landmand.dk.

Storage of Fallen Stock

Changes of 14.08.2007 concerning the specific requirements of livestock famers exceeding an annual average of 500 animal units are added to the executive order.

Kadaverkappe
So-called cadaver covers should be placed in the shade as they become very hot in the sun (they become a covered “roasting tin”). Remember to maintain the gripping ring so that Daka SecAnim’s drivers do not need to move about at the pick-up site. This makes the work easier and minimises the risk of infection. To ensure air around the animals so that the surface can dry, there must be approx. 100 holes with a diameter of approx. 10 mm uniformly distributed over the surface of the cadaver cover.

Conditions regarding collection
Daka does not put down animals, and is involved solely in the removal of fallen stock.

The animals must have been correctly put down. If this is not the case, a report will be made to the police.
Whole cattle, calves, sheep, goats, lambs and kids must be identifiable at pick-up (so that specific risk material is not mixed with others).
Cattle and calves over 7 days old must have the statutory earmarks as Daka SecAnim is required to report the animal’s CKR number to the CHR register.
Sheep and goats over 7 days old must also have statutory earmarks.

Examples of what should not be included (not exhaustive)

Animals with their heads cut off
Animals where entrails hang out through the abdomen
Animals that are hollow in the broadest sense
Animals that are so rotten that they have to fall apart when reading
Autopsied animals that are not adequately sewn together

Arrangement of the Collection Space

It is important that the animals are located in the shade. If the animals are covered, the cover should also be in the shade. Shade can be achieved from buildings, tall trees or ensured by erecting fences, hedges with wire mesh or similar. Max. height of 1.4 m on the loading side.In the interests of loading, Daka SecAnim prefers fences or similar rather than covering.

The animals must be placed on a strong base, for example, closely spaced concrete slats, lifted, so that air can get to the animals from below. Air results in the animals being cooled and dried on the surface. This prevents the escape of liquid from the animals both during storage and during loading. It is important that the surface is very strong so that it can withstand the handling of the animals during loading.

Easy access
The pick-up site must be located in a way that Daka SecAnim’s vehicles do not have to reverse either out of or into a public road during collection. Pick-up in the middle of private roads without passing options requires turning space. The road surface must be of reasonable quality. Trees and shrubs should be cut back. House numbers should be visible. Where there is a possibility of mistaking the way to the pick-up point, signs should be erected. Check out our roadsigns here.

In order to achieve the least possible risk of infection, the pick-up site should be located so that the driving path for the transport of animals to the pick-up location does not cross, and is not the same as, the one that Daka SecAnim’s vehicles use.

Minimising the Risk of Infection

Protection against infection / the environment / discretion
It is recommended that the pick-up space is located at a suitable distance from production buildings. The cover is not to protect against airborne transmission, but against birds pecking at the animals. It is Daka SecAnim’s experience that birds are rarely a problem when animals are registered immediately and stored properly so that they are free of maggots. Maggots develop after 3-4 days at the earliest. Crows can be a particular problem close to forests. If there are problems with birds, the animals must be covered. Containers and covers may be possible sources of infection. The handling of these objects must be carried out in accordance with the rules for protection of the herd against infection.

Proper storage minimises the risk of infection
Fallen stock is less infectious than live animals as breathing has ceased. Moreover, it is primarily contact infection (handling infection) that can transmit diseases. Airborne infection from fallen stock is minimal. When animals are properly stored, there will be no fluid coming from the animals and the risk of infection is further reduced.

Contact infection can be avoided by ensuring adequate transport of the animals to the collection site and organising a pick-up space if necessary with turning space, so that the transport routes of fallen stock to and from the site do not cross each other. Handling on site is also minimised if the animals are properly laid out and are “perpendicular” to the road so that the crane can easily load the animals.

There is no significant environmental nuisance if fallen stock is stored and collected properly.

Some municipalities require measures against seepage from the animals that stem from smaller herds. In these cases it may be agreed that a plastic membrane is buried at the collection site.

The sight of fallen stock awaiting pick-up is a problem. It is therefore necessary to ensure that the animals are located in a way that they cannot be seen from the public road. This is best achieved by erecting a fence or hedge with wire mesh, which also prevents foxes etc. from gnawing at the animals.

Legislation

Legislation on fallen stock
In accordance with the by-product regulations (EC-1069/2009), animals that have died or been destroyed must be delivered to an approved processing company.

Burial of fallen stock
Burial of dead livestock is generally prohibited in Denmark, but in cases where there is no other option it may be approved by the Danish Veterinary & Food Administration and the environmental authorities. Dead pets such as dogs, cats and birds can legally be buried.

Penalty for Decay

There is an extra fee on decayed units

I 2020 we increased the penalty for decay to motivate a faster registration. We had to motivate for a faster registration, in order to avoid decay. When an animal is decomposing, it is a source of smell, bad image for agricultureand deteriorated value of the raw material, when it is recycled.

The penalty for decay are to be considered as an image improving effort for both agriculture and Daka. Daka is not supposed to earn money on the effort and we will do what we can, so that you as a farmer can avoid the fee.

How to avoide the fee:

When the animal is established as dead, it is removed to the space for collection and registered. Even on weekends.
According to the law, you shall register for collection 24 hours after the animal is dead at the latest.
REMEMBER that you pay for what we collect, not for the amount of times, we collect. You should therefore register, when the animal is dead and not according to, when you believe the DAKA-car is arriving.
Keep the animals cold, if possible.
Install your space for collection in the shade and keep it dry and clean.
Implement daily routines for handling and registering dead animals.

Smell is a challenge
Small amounts of decomposed raw material accelerate the decomposition substantially through our whole process and has both quality- and environmental consequences. Especially in and around the factory in Randers, where smell is the source of huge challenges in relation to the local image. Simultaneously, the storage of the dead animals on the spaces for collection are constantly scrutinized by interest groups, who considers the way in which the dead animal is handled and stored, as a mirror on, how the production of domestic animals occurs in general. We stand together with you as farmers to secure that these challenges do not occur.

Duties on Collection

For regular suppliers, the duty will be charged monthly in arrears. The payment is conducted by payment slip or PBS, and the deadline for payment will be stated in the charge.

If the latest due date is exceeded, two reminders will be sent from Daka SecAnim, each with a remuneration fee of DKK 100. In case the payment is continuously absent, the claim will be delegated to debt recovery without any notice, where all costs are imposed to the debtor. Concurrent with the delegation to debt recovery, the future collection discontinues until the outstanding incl. cost incurred is registered as payed. Nevertheless, the collection can carry on again, when a copy of a postmarked certificate of posting (Fax or postal mail) is demonstrated, which documents that the payment has occurred to the lawyer noted on the enclosed giro cheque. A fee on paper-invoice is implemented.

As of the August-invoice 2017 Daka SecAnim implement an invoice fee on 50 DKK ex VAT per paper-invoice. It is possible to avoid this fee, if the invoice is sent through e-mail in the future. Registration takes place here.

Analyseafgift
Fee of analysis will be imposed for the BSE-surveillanceprogram for cattle’s over 48 months. As from January 1st, 2009, the age limit regarding BSE-analysis was changes from 24 months to 48 months.

Export of sheep and goats for breed

This means that breeders who want to export sheep and goats for breeding will continue to have all fallen and destroyed sheep and goats over 18 months from the herd TSE-inspected. Therefore, farmers who export sheep and goats for breeding must remember that they now have to themselves ensure the removal of TSE samples from fallen and killed sheep and goats over 18 months when they are sent to Daka. This can be ensured by using blue ear tags which can be ordered through RYK. Sheep/goats with these blue tags are removed for TSE testing at Daka in Randers.

The EU Commission has been working more quickly than expected and the approval came into force on 18 March 2012. Therefore, the change will come into force with immediate effect.

Registration with the PIGUP&KO app

Daka SecAnim wants to make the collection as easy as possible for you. If you have a CHR number, you can use the PIGUP&KO app to register the animals when they are ready for collection, no matter where you are. The digitally connected customer portal contains all the necessary documents, statistics and invoices. The dead production animals are transported to the Daka SecAnim factory in Randers, where a professional and safe handling is carried out in accordance with Danish and EU guidelines.
